We had a big group of players last night ….26!

3 tables, 2 tables were “high dollar” tables.

Your host tried his luck at the high dollar table and had a lot of fun…. “tricked” Joey into losing and extra $15 …..

Did I know what I was doing or was it just and act? We may never know. I learned that when you say you are “all-in” make sure you know how may chips you have …and where they are. They may not let me play at the big table next week, they don’t seem to like it when I stay to the river with one “out” All I know is Mater would have been proud of my “strategy” last night. LOL

After last week’s Celebration and tons of food last week, this week seemed a bit of a letdown!

We sure missed Paul and Kurt’s Wing Frying talents last night.

It wasn’t all that bad, because, ….…..

Todd brought Pizza for all

And Brad brought is homemade Chili, it was awesome!

The Big Winner at the BIG Table was TIM Congratulations Tim!

I think Big O was the big winner at the “fun” table but Randy and Kurt won a lot as well.

Todd was trying for a record number of re-buys, but, thankfully, he didn’t break the record, he started winning late.

I was up over $35 at one time but ended up $10 down, at least I won a High Hand.

The Celebration was a tremendous success

We had over 30 people attend

Paul and Kurt cooked for 3 hours, in Freezing weather, Guy cooked the Brats.

250 Wings from Chris J and 50 Brats from guy plus deer roast from Richard, banana pudding from Tim, cheese dip from Smiley, other food items including a large Birthday Cake. I think every player contributed in one way or another and it all came together for a good time for all. Thanks for the $ donations, Paul says it was more than enough to cover expenses. We plan to celebrate Birthdays every month, it may not be as big as this one every month, this one was huge ! A hard act to follow, we will see.

We had 3 tables of action, Word from the “big” table was that Rudy won BIG, followed closely by Chris J. Christopher and Scotty were winners at table 2.

Five years of Friends and Fun (and poker too)

Last night we celebrated five years of poker. We have had a lot fun, who knows how much money has changed hands of the years. I really enjoy our “unique” brand of Poker, I know everyone does. Thanks to all who brought goodies last night, just a few I remember …… Big O – Cake, Todd – Beef Jerky, Guy – Giant Cookie, Kurt – Pizza, Rick – Gentleman Jack, Randy – Cake and Barley Pop, I brought a Chic-Fli-A Tray and Rudy gave me a wonderful gift for hosting. Thank you very much Rudy! Thanks to all and please forgive me if I forgot anyone.

We still have some celebrating to do….. Paul is working on another night of Chicken Wings, probably early January 2012, thank you Paul!

Gary brought is son last night for the first time, welcome to Gary Jr. Hope we didn’t scare you off. Welcome to new player Ben as well (Friend of Christopher)

Its been a very long time since I wrote anything here, most of you know why, yes, thats it, I'm just lazy! :)

Well last night was so wild I just had to write a line or two......

It must have had something to do with the weather, we had major storms, heavy rain and lighting, the power flickered several times but never failed, we did lose one security camera to lightning. We could not order pizza due to power outages in the area.

18 Players, 19 counting Joey, who is recovering from very serious surgery in the hospital, that's the first "wild" thing...... Joey asked Rick to "put him all-in" for 5 Bucks for one hand, so, Rick did, and guess who won????? you are right, Joey won it from his hospital bed! ...Tripled up! and, no one "let" him win, he won it fair and square! Congratulations JOEY! and get well soon, we need you back asap!

The MOST MONEY EVER IN PLAY (it was a lot!) we used ALL the chips we had and had to get extra green ones out of the reserve, that has NEVER happend before!

Guy had a ROYAL FLUSH last night! HEARTS! the K Q J 10 was on the board and the ACE was in the pocket. He played it cool, Justin was bettiing 50 cents, Guy just calmly called. He won HH # 1 with it. Joey took some photos, Joey, send me the Photos so I can post them here. Congradulations Guy!

Only 11 players showed up, we assume it was because of Spring Break week. Maybe the roofers scared 'em off. (got a new roof, hail damage) Im not sure who the big winner was but Guy was doing very well, he had a bunch of green chips. I won HH # 2.

Guy was the big winner last week, he came out $65 ahead and he won HH #2 with KKK77. Chris James won HH #1 with quad tens.

We had 22 players last night and Chris James took home most of the money, he also won 2 out of three hands of "no-peek". Congratulations Chris! We all had a great time, it was nice to have the heat back on! Now that I'm no longer unemployed I can afford to run the heat again LOL.

Big O did GREAT! he won a hand of "no-peek" and he won $25 at poker.......I have to say, he should have won a lot more, he folded a Straight Flush! What was he thinking? ...ok, with only the river to go he needed a 3 of diamonds, it would have cost a bunch to see it so he folded, then, the river was the 3 of Diamonds!

They said Rudy was a PLAYA at table one and his new "hand" is KING-5. I was at table 2 so I'm not sure what went on but I'm sure it was fun!

4th annual Huntsvegas Christmas Tournament at WNBP

We had a great tournament this past Saturday night! Wes, the king of Huntsvegas, did an outstanding job managing the tournament. We had 52 people signed up but we ended up with 47 players, just like WNBP's tourney last September, 47! One of these days we will have 50!

I obtained a P.A. System which I think worked out very well, we were able to let everyone know what was going on at all times! My son, Christopher really enjoyed being the Microphone man! Good Job!

I can't express enough how much I appreciate all our players! All of you are good players and good sports!

The Big Winner was Brad! Brad hit a lot of good draws, he played well and I think he will be the first to tell you, he had a lot of good luck too! Brad needed runner, runner to eliminate our Host, Wes, and he got it, he needed and Ace on the river and he got it! He had an unfair advantage too, Crown Royal!, it helped him play loose and thats what he needed. He ended up with one of the biggest Chip Stacks I've ever seen. Congratulations Brad! Second Place was split 3 ways between Rudy, Butch and John Jupin. Congratulations to you guys! Marla won 5th Place! Way to go Marla! I dont know the rest of the winners, we paid the top 6 or 7, let me know.

We had a good group playing the cash game. It was a lot of fun for all.

3 Years of WNBP Celebration

We celebrated our Third anniversary of WNBP excitement this past Wednesday. Kurt, Brad and Guy provided the food, so did others, Thanks to ALL! Kurt grilled up a whole bunch of food, I thought it was TOO MUCH you guys ate it all up! Rudy brought us a case of his famous Home Brew, it was very good! Thanks Rudy! Colby brought two gallons of his home brew too, plus more, it was very good also! Brad brought a mini keg of Spatien, again, it was good! Thanks to all for everything! I sampled ALL the various brews available and I ate at least 3 foot long hot dogs, so much for my diet! I had a bunch of good pictures but the camera glitched and all the photos were deleted! Sorry.

I will miss the next 4 Wednesday nights. I know you guys will be fine without me, we have not missed a Wednesday night in 3 years so don’t start now! Christopher will be there, so will Guy and Justin, Kurt, etc ----- everyone but me. Have fun!

I plan to write about my Trip on this blog while I’m gone. If they have internet in Southeast Asia I will post photos and notes here and on my Picasa Photo Page. (I hear they do have internet)

I was the Big Winner last night! Well, not at Poker, I was down $19 for the night. I was the Big Winner as far as Friends and Family throwing me a big Party for my Birthday! I really had a great time. Thanks to all of you for the gifts, wishes and your friendship! I am fortunate to have so many friends. I’m glad our poker club has been and continues to be a good thing for all of us. We have had over 20 players for the past 5 or six weeks and we always have a good time.

Guy and the gang had everything taken care of … 8 pounds of Bar-B-Q, Buns, slaw and even a big cookie complete with candles (Sparkler Candles). Brad made a great cheese dip too! Thanks Brad! Luis brought us a nice Mexican treat, I can’t remember what he called it but it was good and it went fast! Thanks Luis! I think we ate all the food! Thanks a bunch Guy, good job!

I received a few gifts as well, Kurt and some of the guys got me a nice “Trophy Rack” see photos below. Thanks Kurt and all who pitched in! Joey Bought my first bag of poker chips, Thanks Joey! I also received 4 bottles of Vodka! One from Brad, Skyy, one from Paul, Skyy, one from Johnny, Tangueray, one from the entire group, Grey Goose! Wow, that’s enough to get me thru the SEC Championship game! Thanks a lot everyone! Thanks to Johnny and Mark for dropping by for the party, the three of us have been friends for a long time, we worked together at TBE for several years. I’m working on getting them to play cards with us!

WNBP Takes Pearl River by Storm

Several of our WNBP people spent the weekend at Pearl River Mississippi. Paul set it up and his brother, Melvin, let us stay at his place. Thanks Paul and Melvin! It was Guy, Brian, Christopher, Paul and myself at Melvin's. Kurt and Marla had a room at the casino. Rex and Karen went to the Bama - Chattanooga game in Tuscaloosa on Saturday and joined us after that.

We arrived early Friday. The 2:00 Friday Tournament had about 60 players, including Guy, Brian, Kurt and Marla. They all did well but Guy WON IT! It was down to 3 players and Guy took out the Chip leader by winning 3 big hands in a row. The final two players were about equal after that so they decided to Chop the Pot. Guy won about $500.00! Way to go Guy! Brian made the final table, he had an awesome hand; Quad Ducks! He played it slow and took out a player who had trip Queens. I stayed at the Poker Bar and played video poker.

Saturday Morning Paul and Melvin prepared us a big Breakfast! It hit the spot! Thanks again Paul! Then it was time for some target practice! We brought lot of guns and ammo, Christopher had a 30-30 high power rifle, Guy brought a rifle and a 22 target pistol. Brian brought at least 3 handguns ...... 44, 45 9 mil. We all had a great time blasting targets. Melvin lives so far out in the country we could shoot all we wanted.

After that it was back to the casino! Christopher had a great day at the cash tables, he won over $400.00! He won his final hand with Quad Queens! Way to go boy! I think all the WNBP players made the final table in the Saturday Early Tournament but no one cashed. (Need to get more info - will update the blog later)

I played at the cash table for a couple of hours, 1 -3 limit, played slow, was up a little, in the end I had a straight flush draw after the flop, open on both ends, lot of outs, a guy kept pushing me but I was determined to see the river! Missed the straight flush, missed the flush and missed the straight. that was it for me. I went an listened to the band after that, I spent the rest of the night at the bar....... not much going on there, right guys? But I do want to go back! soon!

Sunday featured Guy and Paul in another tournament and they both Cashed! $100 each! Guy also won big on Video Poker!

Ronnie hit the highlights. I can add a little of my own experiences.
Poker:
I entered the Saturday $85 tournament. I was able to survive for about 2 hours without getting cards. My best starting hand was pocket 10's. In hindsight, I probably should have bluffed more to pick up some blinds and hands before my stack got too small. I think there were 5 tables total.
I played the $40 turbo tournament on Sunday. I really like the turbo format with the low entry fee. Blinds go up every 10 minutes and the tournament ends in about 2 hours. We should consider doing more of these. It does bring luck in a little more and you have to play with lesser starting hands. I had better cards in this tournament was able make the final table, then the top 5 when the chip leader agreed to chop the pot. I was 2nd low stack so this was fine with me.
Shooting:
We had 6 handguns and 2 long guns. Brian brought 4 handguns. All very nice. Do no break into Brian's car or house. It will be the last thing you do. All of Brian's guns were new to me and they were high quality firearms. Most folks shot them all several times. Thanks again to Brian for bringing the guns and providing ammo. Based on the cost of ammo, he probably had to cash in part of his 401k for this event, because we used a lot of ammo. He is also an expert pistol marksman and gave us all shooting lessons. The fact that no one was shot was a success. Good safety rules were followed and there was no drinking during the range activities.
Comparison of Pearl River (Silverstar) to Sams Town.
I have been to both a few times now. Poker room at Sams Town is better (well managed and many more tables), but Silverstar is not bad. There are less tables and dealers, so you sometimes have to wait an hour or so to get on a cash game.
The lounge at Silverstar is much better than Sams Town. There are no other options for music and dancing in Neshoba County, MS, so the Pearl River locals pack out the bar and they always have good bands on weekends. There are lots of chances to dance and talk with new folks. The locals are generally friendly to outsiders. More than half the people you meet are from Alabama. There is wide range of ages represented. You can sit and listen to music or dance your legs off.
Pearl River also has a nice water park and 2 golf courses, which adds to the list of possible activities. Pearl River has no camping at the casino, but there is private camping//rv park within a couple of miles.
This was a good trip and we can do this again if there is interest.

Wild Night for Smiley

Smiley started off bad, kept coming up short on big pots, pushing at the wrong time, getting out kicked. He came back strong at the end, he won a big side pot off Walt, I took the main pot on that hand. He won another big hand off Rex, Rex was way up and doing good, they both went all in and they both had full houses! Smiley's full house was just a little bit better than Rex's. Speaking of Rex, he brought 3 friends with him! Randall, Johnathan and Haroon. Haroon is in town for a class, he is from Washington DC, it was his first trip to the Deep South. I think he enjoyed his adventure here in the Heart of Dixie. He played pretty well too, he won $22!

Chris James get a ROYAL FLUSH online

Chris James is a regular player at WNBP. He was playing in an online Tournament and got a Royal Flush! Congratulations Chris!!

I just thought I'd pass this along. I've had an account with bodog.com for 4-5 years now and mainly just play the $10 sit and go tournaments. It pays the top 3 and usually, if you play some what conservative, you can place in the money. I was playing a $10 tournament last night and it was down to 6 of us left. I think I was low stack with around $1200-1300 in chips. I had Q 10 of diamonds with 3 players in the hand and the flop comes A of diamonds, K of diamonds, & 9 of clubs. The guy to the right of me bets $500, so I pushed all in with my remaining $1200 and both of them called. I had a flush draw, royal flush draw, and inside straight draw. The last card was the J of diamonds and YES giving me the Royal Flush and I tripled up. That was the first time that I had ever hit the Royal in all my years of playing cards. Haley and the kids were asleep and I didn't have anyone to tell, so I popped open a beer and toasted it to myself...lol. I ended up finishing 3rd and won $20. Chris

Rudy and Rick Win BIG

I was not at the Rudy and Rick table and I think that was a good thing, they cleaned up! Rudy was the Big Winner with + $48 and Rick was right behind hin with + $43! Congratulations to both of you! I'm glad Rudy won big, if you check the reports from the last few weeks you will see Rudy has had a rough go lately. He even had to buy beer for his spill a while back. (he has a 12 pack of credit toward any future spills). Good job both of you and Thanks for dealing table 2 Rick.

Table one was dominated by Butch and Brian. Butch was + $28 and Brian was + $26. Justin, Guy and myself had our moments but in the end it was Butch and Brian, Congratulations!

We had 23 Players! we almost went to 3 tables but didnt have to because some players left early. I think at one time we had 11 and 11.

HHs were fun, I think we had QUADS 5 times. Christopher won HH #1 with 7777A for $28. Todd won #2 with QQQQ10, beat Christopher's 4444. Guy won #3 with QQQQ7, Luis had quads also but not high enough.

Two weeks in a row Justin Tarr was the Big Winner! He won almost $50! Yours truly was again the second highest winner, sounds just like last week. I won $35 AFTER being DOWN $35. At the end of the night, I had the biggest chip stack on the table, $70, but I had to "buy-in" 7 times! I was fined only once! Jeff K played last night, he actually bluffed and won a big pot. He also beat me one time when I had a full house! I had 22266 he had 77722. Jeff would have won the HH with that but was not in. Another good hand....Kurt missed a Royal Flush by one card and Brad missed a Straight Flush by one.

Tarr on Top again

Justin Tarr was the big winner last night, congratulations Justin! He was up almost $50! He also won HH #2 with AAAA. Yours truly did good also, I was up almost $30 and I won HH #1 with AAAJJ.

Christopher had the basement looking great, he even mopped the floor! We had the fridge well stocked with soft drinks thanks to the new funding program we started a few weeks ago. Several people brought beer to share. Joey brought a case and some cookies. Rudy brought a case of Yuengling. (spill penalty)

We had a good group (as usual) last night, 19 players!

I think we all had a good time.......Good Food, good Beverages and good friends.

I have to tell my story about High Hand number 1.....

It was very early when I got my AAAJJ so I tried my best to get 'em to "PAY IT OUT" ! But they wouldn't do it, kept talking about Quads or Straight Flushes or whatever. It was a long wait for the 7 o clock payout. With 20 minutes to go I'm still good, but, the flop comes A-A-A !!! Seven players are in the hand, they called over to table two "take a look guys, Ronnie's HH is going down" ! the turn was a King! I really thought I had lost at that point, one of these guys is bound to have a King or even an Ace or maybe pocket Queens. The river was trash and my HH survived, they finally paid me at 7:01. Talk about drama! Justin got HH #2 later with Quad Aces!

I must confess, I was not on my best behavior last night, I was "penalized" more than once for "inappropriate" comments, all in fun but nevertheless I should have been more thoughtful of my guests and I apologize. I paid my fee to the pot, usually 50 cents, I ended up winning most of those "bonus" pots anyway.

October Ladies Night

We had 24 players even though we had severe weather Friday evening. I'm glad so many braved the weather to come out and enjoy and evening of action in the basement!

We had to implement the "Mater Rule" .........MAX Pre Flop raise of 25 cents. This was done to save time, and to help new players to see the flop without losing all their chips early.

The very first hand Mater Raises Pre Flop! He had pocket Aces so I guess it was OK! His Aces lost to Jackie's Trip Queens!

Jackie won the first hand and Ann won the 2nd hand! Both at Mater's expense!

I didn't take any notes on how much we won or lost so here is what I have in the order of arrival...........

Ronnie - I was at table 1 all night, I don't know if I won or lost but I didn't have to buy more than 1 or 2 extra baggies. Looks like I won at least one hand.....

Mater and Ann - They had a great time! They were at Table 2 and played until 11:00 and beyond, they won some hands late that made up for the several baggies they had to buy.
Asa - Asa arived early and was our Dealer for a while! Thanks Asa! Not sure how he did but I bet he came out ahead!
Christopher - Table 2 not sure?
David - He sat next to me and I could tell he was a bit overwhelmed by the crowd at table 1, I told him to consider the high number of players and only play quality hands. He won a couple of big pots and came out ahead, he won the odd money too!which was over $15!
Paul and Amy - Paul and his daughter Amy were at table 2. Amy came over more than once to buy more baggies, I heard she got a lesson in being "second best" She had good hands but just not quite good enough. she came all the way from Tuscaloosa! She is a Freshman at Alabama! Roll Tide! -Kurt says Thanks for the Alabama Cap!

Walt - He built a big stack, he took a bunch of chips off the beginners as well as the regulars. Probably the big winner. Congratulations.

I'm suprised Rick bounced back after the two hands I won against him. I'm suprised I finished up too. I flopped an Ace high flush and lost to dollar Bill on the river when he improved his two pair to a boat. Then I caught top pair, top kicker on the river against mater but he improved to two pair on the river. Then I flopped two straights and the board paired on the river and I somehow won both of those to put me back in the black again. I had to leave a bit early - we are doing tests starting at 6:30 am on RSA. Who plans these tests anyway? I heard on the radio that the Station at Bridge Street is doing a 9 week poker tournament for prizes (there was blackjack too). Top prize was a flat screen TV. It was on Wednesdays so WNBP might have to take the show on the road. I'm sure we'd do good if enough people are interested - we could just take over the whole tournament. -asa

Dollar Bill was the Big Winner last night! The Sly Fox dominated table 1. Those who hung in till the river were usually blown away with Bill's Flush, Straight or even a Full House! In the end, players seemed to be intimidated by the brutal beatings being administered by Big Bill. A simple raise from the man would send cards to the folded pile! His dominance demanded respect, he could buy the blinds at will! What a night for Dollar Bill! Congratulations!

Happy Birthday Rick, we let you win a few hands because it was your Birthday, yeah Right! Good play and thanks again for Dealing! You are getting pretty good at the job, you are also handling the abuse very well! (Dealers get blamed for everything). Some of us chipped in and bought Rick a bottle of "BOOKERS" a special version of Jim Beam, $55 per bottle. He gladly shared it with the rest of us. There is a lot left for next week too! We planned to buy Rick's second bag but he never needed it! Rick also won the biggest pots of no-peek ever..... 12 players were playing for $60 and Rick won it with QQ.

I played all night on my first bag. I was up early, hit a long dry spell then won a big pot at the end.... had high pair at the flop, nines, (one in the pocket) I called Todd's big bet (pocket queens). Another nine popped up on the turn and I bet it, took a good sized pot that put me up for the night. With that same hand I won HH #2 with a boat... 99944 for $24 . I've been getting lucky and winning a lot of HH cash lately.

When asked about his big wins.... "just drinking beer and eating pizza" . I think its safe to say Todd had a great time even tho he lost a bit.

Pitt Boss McKay was wild last night! ...get this... he raises the pre-flop bet....without ANY CARDS! I mean he had been away from the table, upon return he looks down sees the 10 cent bet in front of him and grabs his chips and hollers "raise" "blind" !! we say , "blind? you aint even got no cards!" it takes a lot of guts to play a hand with no pockets, I guess he was betting that the board would split? LOL Guy seemed to have a great time. he Won HH #1 22288 for $24!

Thanks for doing the HH's. Kurt dodged a bullet! he knocked over his "sippy cup" but it didn't spill, would have cost him a 12 pack for spilling on the new table cover! Kurt left early, he had only 4 hours of sleep the night before, working several tasks at work.

Hey Ronnie Greeting from Oklahoma!!! Just wanted to let you know that WNBP is being represented here in the Great State of Oklahoma. Last Thursday I played in Texas Hold'em tournament at The Creek Nation Indian Casino in Muskogee OK. 91 players and me sat down at 7:30 pm for a 1st place cash prize of $1,000.00. I made the final table with about 85,000 in chips, roughly 5 place in chips, I took a few small pots and but couldn't get any really good cards so I mainly played the blinds. While the others players knocked each other out. It got down to three players left, I was in the big blind for 20,000 , hold cards are 8, 3 , unsuited, neither player raised, so I checked, the flop came out 8, 8, 3. Player 1 bet 15,000, I called , player 3 ( chip leader) went all in, player one called, so did I. Turn card was 6, the river was 2. Player 1 showed Jack, 8 for trips, I had the nut full house, player 3 had pocket aces. Gotta luv Kurts fav hand!!! The final hand, my hold cards were K, 9 unsuited, flop came K, 9, A, The former chip leader went all in, I called, showed my 2 pair against his pair of Aces, turn was a 5, river was a 4 and I ended up with the winning hand worth $1,000.00!!!!!!! As much as this was victory for me, it was also one for WNBP cause of the things I learned while playing cards with you all. Wayne

Kenny had evidently stumbled across our WNBP Blog and after reading about all the fun and excitement that takes place in the basement every week he decided to give it a try! I gave him a call and told him to join us. He brought his friend Richard with him. Add two more good guys to WNBP. I didn't get to play with Richard (table 2) but I sat right next to Kenny. I can tell you, Kenny is a good guy and a good poker player too! His style reminds me of Justin, he kind of favors Justin as well. He hosts his own group of poker players at his house every weekend. He likes "side bets" like red or black flops etc. He and Joey would have a good time, Joey will bet on anything! I hope you guys had a good time last night.

High Hand # 1 was won by yours truly! I had Quad Jacks! It was decided to go ahead and pay me off and start another one. A few hands later I got Quad Nines! (Beat Brad's Boat, he failed to notice the big grin on my face with three nines on the board and went all in) The guys were not too excited about paying me off again so we played on. Later, "the boy" Christopher comes up with Quad Kings! They didn't want to pay him either, then he got Quad Queens! We eventually paid him off. New Player, Kenny, won HH #3 with Quad Tens. Quads were all over the place last night.... Walt had Quad Sixes, Jim had Quad Eights and Big O had Quad Aces (last hand of the night) Thats EIGHT Quads in one night! sixes, eights, nines, tens, jacks, queens, kings, aces. unbelievable! 5th Annual Texas Hold'em Tournament

IT was FUN, EXCITING and PROFITABLE! ...for the winners! Even those who didn't win said they had a great time, as usual. It IS a lot of work for me and Christopher and all our helpers but the effort is well worth the results! I have never heard of anyone being angry or upset over anything. In fact, people go out of their way to tell us how much they appreciate our efforts and how much the enjoy playing at our place. It really shows......This year the Tourney filled up in just 3 days! I started out with 44 seats but due to demand, I increased it to 50 seats! That took a good chunk out of the waiting list! eventually people had to drop out and.......with just one hour to start time we had exactly 50 players and no one waiting. After we began play we had only 44 players, (sigh) we had 1 who had to drop out at the last minute and we had 5 no-shows.

We got off to somewhat of a rough start due to the no-shows...... we started dealing at 6:33 and we had to figure out what to do with the no-shows. We decided to put their chips in the empty seats and "blind 'em in" for the first round, in case they showed up. They never showed up so we eliminated their chips. We really got rolling after that!

Special thanks to Ann and Jessica and Jackie, they took care of checking people in, taking money, parking, High Hand and a lot more! Thanks!!!!!

Things went pretty well, a lot was going on.... We had the Alabama game on 2 TVs (pay per view) and the Auburn game on one TV, we had requests for the Nascar Race but too much was going on! It got a little busy coloring up chips between the rounds but we managed, thanks again for your patience!

Thanks to all who brought food too! We had 10 pizzas from dominoes. I want to personally thank James and BB Buzzell for the tasty sausage they brought, because, we plugged their crock pot into the wrong power strip which caused the strip to cut off and kill our fans! I was bitching about that crock pot when Buzzell pointed out that he had brought it for us, I felt pretty bad about it, I got "the boy" (Christopher) to plug it into another outlet and all was well. We had enough money in the "Donations Box" to cover the pizza with a little left over to go toward the Bama Pay-perview! Rick also donated a case of Coors for the game so it all came out good!

Speaking of fans, it did get pretty hot with all those people in the basement. Jackie worked hard at setting up fans and even re-routing our air conditioning ducts. Someone suggested installing a few ceiling fans. I'm gonna do it! next time there will be ceiling fans!!!

Guy goes from Worst to First!

Guy was the Big loser last week and he lost 4 bags of chips in a hurry last night, but, after it was all said and done he ended up being the Big Winner! He cashed out up $53! I had a simular story, I was second biggest loser last week and ended up being second highest winner last night! I cashed out for + $37 and I won HH #1 for $32. I got lucky on a hand.... I had 2 pair (Kings and Aces) after the turn card. Jim W bets over six bucks and gets a caller too! I figured he had a straight and was trying to keep people from drawing a flush, I called, the river card gave me a Full House! KKKAA. Good enough to win the pot and the HH! Thanks Jim! I got lucky and won a few more hands.

At the 7:00 Break I had a big chip stack, I had just been paid for the HH and then.......

Paul stands up in front of our crowd of 23 players to make an announcement. I trying to think, What is going on here? Paul had taken up a collection from our players and got enough money to buy my way, and Christopher's way, into Saturday's Tournament! With enough left over for a case of Coors Light! He said it was their way of saying THANKS to Christopher and myself for all we do to make WNBP happen! We were shocked and surprised! We really do enjoy doing what we do or we would not be doing it. Also, like I always say, we could not do it without all the help we get and all the great people who choose to play poker at WNBP! We really appreciate your generous gifts! Thank you Paul! Big O was the big winner at table one with $58.00! Rudy was the big winner at table two with $40.00! Congratulations to both of you! Big O said he got good cards all night! Its easy to play when you get cards! I'm sure Big O still used his talent and skill to maximize his earnings.

Marc's first hand at WNBP.....
Rick kept pushing and pushing and took a big pot, mostly from his buddy Marc. We all pointed out to Marc that Rick does that to all his friends he brings to WNBP. The very next hand Rick is doing it again but Marc hangs in there, just calling Ricks big bets. At the end Rick laughs as he shows his nut flush, then , slowly, Marc shoes his cards and says "I got a full house" ! LOL Marc takes the pot from old buddy Rick!

Guy and myself ended up being the big losers, I could'nt do anything right, I even folded with a straight on the board! That earned me "the sign" for a while. (Senior moment in progress).

Guy was the big winner last night! He was up $50.00 Congratulations! Thanks for Dealing too!

Big O did very well also. He was up $46.00. He also won High Hand # 1 for $24.00! He had pocket Kings and the Flop had the other two Kings! Way to go Big O! He stole a hand from ME......... I had a straight at the turn, Big O needed a spade on the River for a Flush, yup, Spade on the river for Big O! Joey had a big stack but gave it all back!

I won HH#2 with a boat for $20. HH#3 was split Five Ways! It was only $14.00, so, Smiley, Brad, Joey, Guy and me each got 2 bucks and the extra 4 went into the kitty.

Last night was the first night I asked for a "cover charge" to help with expenses. Thanks to all of you for your support. Everyone I talked too said it was a good idea and long overdue. If you haven't heard, from now on, your first baggie of chips will cost you $7.00, the extra 2 bucks goes into the WNBP expenses bag. The money will go for Supplies such as soft drinks, snacks, new cards, new table covers, etc. Justin T will be in charge of the fund, Thanks Justin! We had 19 players last night so we have $38.00 in the fund, add the 4 bucks from the HH extra and that gives us $42.00. I will have the fridge stocked with beverages and plenty of snacks next week! I might even buy some PEPSI Products (private joke). ;-)

I'm really looking forward to our WNBP Girls and Guys night tomorrow night! Looks like we will have over 20 players! Great! Come on by and play, even if you don't have a date!

Our Big September tournament is coming up..... 2 weeks from Saturday! Response has been overwhelming! the 44 seats filled up in just 4 or 5 days! We have 14 people on the waiting list. I am working on a plan, gonna maybe expand to 5 tables, 50 people, or more, if I can find the space. Stay tuned. What a party that will be, Auburn and Bama both have games on TV that night. WNBP pitches in for Surprise Party

Rex and Karen (my neighbors and relatives) Got together with Colby's wife and planned a big Surprise party for Colby's Birthday. It was not going to be just a party, it was a Casino Night Party! Colby is Rex and Karen's nephew. Rex has a craps table he built himself and I had built a Blackjack table a while back. Stored in Rex's Barn were 2 Blackjack Tables, A Roulette table and the Craps Table. Rex and Karen Built the Roulette Table. We decided not to use the Roulette table, it takes a lot to deal roulette. With a lot of help from Christopher, Guy, Kathy, Rex, Karen, myself and several others we pulled off a great party for Colby and his friends. We ended up with 2 poker tables, 2 Blackjack tables and the Craps table. Add CARDS, Dealers, POKER CHIPS and dice and you have the makings for a Casino night! Throw in Great Food and a KEG of BEER and you have a Big Party on your hands! Christopher and Karen worked hard getting everything ready, counting out the chip bags, getting all the cards needed for 6 deck blackjack shoes, cleaning the dust off the tables.

Most of you will know him as professional poker player Dennis Phillips. Philip was online the other night.........

Guys,
I won an entry into a $100 poker tourney this weekend. Before you get excited, I did not win and got knocked out ~215th and it paid 198 places. I had A-10 clubs against pocket 6’s….flop comes two clubs and Ace….sitting great….turn nothing…river 6.

OK, that’s not the interesting part. I sat next to this guy for about 2 ½ hours, he was sitting next to me on my right. His name was D. Phillips and his picture was the guy Dennis Phillips that came in 3rd in the WSOP Main Event last year. I didn’t think much about it, thinking it was just some guy trying to be like him. Several guys were bugging him about how he came in 3rd and how he was playing, etc. Well, once he got knocked out he wished everyone good luck and it had him listed as one of the PokerStars Pro’s in a different font and color. My mouth dropped open! I couldn’t believe I had re-raised this guy and stolen a couple pots from him. He played tight and I saw him as no threat….lol At least I lasted longer than he did…lol

Fun at the Fish Fry

The Big Fish Fry Presented by Paul was a huge success! We had at least 28 people. Paul fried up 12 bags of fish. He said it was the most fish he ever cooked at one time! We ate ALL of it! Paul would fry a batch of fish, then a batch of fries and it would be gone in a hurry! Thanks a lot Paul! And Happy birthday!

We also grilled hot dogs, Sausages and Hamburgers, most of that disappeared also! I tried to keep up with what people brought but I lost track. Everyone pitched in as usual! Thanks to all!

We had more than 10 players before 1:00PM. The poker started up and didn't stop until 10:15! We had a lot of Action on the Poker tables, we had 3 tables going! We had Quads 3 times!

Walt almost broke the record for most money won. He won $129.00 but the record is still $140.00 set by Tyler B. Congratulations Walt! Mater did very well too, came out ahead $32.00, even after losing a very large pot to Walt, Mater had a possible straight, possible Flush, even a possible Royal Flush but no luck for the River man that hand, Walt had pocket aces and the flop had another ace, Walt took the hand, estimated to be over $60.00. Brad and Joey were big winners as well, Congratulations!

Joey's turn to be Big Winner!

Joey was the big winner last night. Billy couldn't make it 4 in a row after all. Joey started out bad, it took him 2 hours and 3 baggies to win a hand! I guess he got on a roll after that. (I was not at his table)

It was a FULL MOON and I predicted QUADS! Well, no Quads, but Guy got BETTER than Quads ........ Queen High Straight Flush!!! Good enough to win HH #1 for $24.00 !

Ronnie Ball ! Won HH#2 with AAA55 $24.00. Guy had the same hand earlier but over bet it! I also won the ODD MONEY!

I brought a "sampler pack" of "Tommy Knockers" Beer. One of the new High Percentage beers now available in Alabama. I shared some with a few of the players. It was pretty good! I found it at Alabama Spirits, a new place located in the Publix shopping center in Harvest. (53 and Jeff). The owner asked me about my WNBP shirt, I told him about our group, he said he could get us a discount on large orders. He a a big Variety of Beer and Liquor.

Rex Garrison, my cousin and neighbor dropped in last night and told us about a new bar! Its owned by a good friend of Rex's. Its located in the new shopping center near Martin Luther King Blvd and Highway 53. (Rideout Road and 53 to all you old timers) Behind the Chevron. Its called Highway 53 Bar and Grill, owned by Jeff Bingham. Tell 'em REX Sent you! Thanks!

Rudy must have gotten his weeks mixed up because he brought us a BUNCH OF FISH! The Fish Fry is next week Rudy! Actually, He brought us a "Sam's Pack" of Goldfish! the tasty cheese crackers shaped like fish! Thanks Rudy!

Huntsville Police cracking down on Gambling

Clubs, bars and even "home games" were warned that poker is illegal in Alabama Gambling is illegal in Huntsville, and more than two dozen sports bars, clubs and even private citizens have been hosting high-stakes poker games were reminded of that last week. Sgt. Mark Roberts with the Huntsville Police Department said many of the businesses were hosting legal poker tournaments for $10 a person as well as big-time poker games on the side, "where thousands of dollars were on the table." Police discovered a group of over 50 people had organized a poker "club" know as "WNBP" and were gambling EVERY WEEK! Neighbors reported that every Wednesday night, 20 or 30 cars would be parked in the yard, located near the intersection of Jeff Road and Douglass Road. As far as we could tell, the "WNBP" stands for "we need better players". reported the neighbors. Police plan to stake out the location tonight and plan to make several arrests.. --one officer was heard saying...."we got to teach these criminals that poker will not be tolerated in this state" ! We already got warrants for ....

It is illegal to gamble in public and in establishments with liquor licenses," Roberts said. "It always has been. We're just reinforcing the laws already on the books." Several years ago when Texas Hold 'Em tournaments first became popular on TV, some bar owners came to the police to ask if they could host poker tournaments at their places, minus the hefty buy-in. "They said they wouldn't be playing each hand for cash, but the winner of the tournament would receive a prize," Roberts said. "That was OK, but it's evolved into high-stakes poker games. I don't know of any that weren't playing for big money." Roberts said no one seemed surprised that the side games were being shut down. "I think most of them had been expecting it for a while," he said. "Each of them blamed the other establishments who were having the high-stakes games. Some (of the bar owners and managers) were upset, saying they wouldn't be able to pay their bills now. "But it's across the board. It is fair and equitable." Roberts said the police had begun receiving complaints from wives who said their husbands were losing thousands of dollars, "and we realized that this wasn't just a little thing anymore. "One man, know as Mater the Man, went out and took a second mortgage on his house to pay his gambling debts," he said. "These were not little games. ? Professional dealers were being brought in. It was like a casino." Butch Cassady, owner of the Bench Warmer on University Drive since 1990, said business has dropped significantly since he had to pull the poker games.Tournament players at his place could win trips to Tunica, Miss., 27-inch TVs or free food. Cassady said bar owners would've preferred that the police called a meeting and explained the gambling laws "and gotten us all on the same page" before shutting down the games. "If it was getting out of hand, and maybe it was, they could've had one big meeting and warned us," Cassady said. "It would be good if people could still play for fun and be sociable and not lose any money. "We thought what we were doing was OK, but now we realize it wasn't. Everybody had signs up, 'Poker here tonight.' It's not like anybody was trying to hide anything." Cassady said his fear is that poker players will now turn to hosting games in homes. "There won't be any security like you have in a bar, and I'm afraid some people are going to get robbed," he said. Roberts said police will return to the bars for random checks and if there are future complaints. He said if the play-for-cash games resume, "both management and players will be put in jail."

Philip Cauthen Wins Online Tournament

Philip plays in all our local tournaments. He just won a large amount of money by finishing in FIRST Place in an online tournment! Congratulations!

Here is Philip's story........

Ronnie, I just wanted to pass along a good poker story. I play a lot of online poker but usually just on weekends since I have a young daughter that keeps me busy. She has been at Grandparent’s for a week so allowing me more time to play. Anyway, I entered a $25 – Guaranteed $25,000 Prize Pool Tourney last night. The prize pool ended up over $30,000 since 1200+ people entered. I didn’t realize so many would enter. I hate playing that many idiots…lol It started at 7:00 PM and I finished up at 3:00 AM. I managed to finish 1st place which paid $6238!!! Needless to say, I felt like I had just won the WSOP Main Event. Anyone who has played these big tourney’s knows how crazy it gets once blinds go up and people make it to the money. This one paid out to 216 places. I was sitting OK going into the money so didn’t have to make any desperate moves and could wait on good cards. Although, I did fold a lot of AQ, AJ, small pair type hands out of position facing big ALL IN’s. My best hand was a K high str8 flush. I doubled with that hand against trip 5’s but it was early and I only won 3000. I played really good until the end and I made two bad plays that almost cost me. One hand I had pocket 6’s and raised in late position against small stacks (250,000, I had 650,000). One called me. The flop comes 3-4-5 and he goes ALL IN ? I hesitate and figure I have 10 outs against over pair or over cards. He had QQ and I missed. I am now in 5th with nine players left. I take another hit a few hands later limping as SB against BB. I hit top pair on flop and push…he calls….turn is trash and I push..he calls…I check and he pushes…I’m pretty much committed but can’t pull the trigger and fold. He shows over pair that he slow played so I feel a little better even though I am now low stack. I fight my way back and long story short I end up heads-up with 1.5 million against 3.5 million. I like heads-up and feel like I got a chance now. He likes to bluff and I have notes on his play. Before long we are even then he tries to bluff after I check top pair. I take him out. For those that may play, I take notes on everyone. There is a note section under each player’s name. When I got to the final table I had played against all but two. This helped tremendously knowing who was tight , loose, bluffed, stole blinds, etc. Have fun and hope to see you guys soon!!!

It was a big night for all the players! We had a real celebrity in attendance! Gary Otten, otherwise known as BIG O! He was in the house! He played football at the UNIVERSITY OF ALABAMA! ROLL TIDE! He played for BEAR BRYANT! Big O is also a high roller poker player at the Huntsville Country Club! Big O Schooled us last night, lets see how much he won........WAIT, looks like he lost! could it be? Big O really lost to a bunch of ROOKIES? I was really looking forward to writing something positive about Big O, but alas, he was down $35! Too bad! maybe next time! It was the OTHER BIG Guy who cleaned up! Yes, THE CHAMP! Big John! UP $35!!!! Congratulations CHAMP! we are not worthy! I think its time for you to abandon your amature status and go PRO! You must get bored, taking candy from us babies!

In other news......

RONNIE BALL won HH #2 with a straight flush! At the turn the board had 2, 3, 5 of hearts and I had the 4 of hearts, open on both ends! I showed my card to "the boy" (he was already out of the hand). The river was the 6 of hearts! The boy had to control his reaction as did I. I calmly said "I check" it was checked all around, Justin looked through the deck and announced that the straight flush was out there somewhere, that's when I turned over my 4 of hearts! $26 High Hand!

Then there was the Justin Tarr Story.....

Losing early, getting beat by one outers! Justin was gonna go home, we kept on talking him into staying. (we needed his dealing talent) It was getting late and he was leaving for sure!! The boy had just drawn out on him for a big pot, he offered to buy Justin back in, so did Brad! Justin reluctantly took the offer from the boy. From that point on, Justin was winning! He won back ALL the money he was down and even came out ahead $10! A lot of that was MY MONEY! Next time, let him go!!!! LOL ;-)

Brad Won HH #1 and won a bunch of money ($40) early, ended up giving it back. But won a hand of No-Peek for $25.

Blog Anniversary

I started this Blog a year ago this month! Its a lot of fun and I think a lot folks like to read it. Thanks for all the good feedback.

Thanks to Joey for getting me a nice shirt at the beach!

I failed to write the report for last week. (see it at the bottom of this post)
Been very busy since we got back from the RV trip. I had six new tires put on the RV yesterday! Good to go now!

Last night.......

We had 16 players. Brad brought some "high test" beer, unavailable in Alabama until they changed the law last month. (Higher percentage of alcohol) Thanks a bunch Brad! I got to have 3 or 4 bottles of it. I didn't want to hog it all but for some reason, everyone at my table insisted that I drink as many strong beers as I could. Maybe it was because I was wining too much! I caught Big O BLUFFING and later I got lucky on a big hand (everyone ALL-IN) I had Jack, Nine of hearts and we were all in PRE-Flop! Big John and Kurt missed drawing a straight, I ended up winning with 2 pair, Jacks and Nines. The pot was over $40! Luck! Then I beat Justin with a 2 outer! --- sometimes I get lucky! Found out what "suited connectors" means...... Jack-Ten Suited or any 2 cards next to each other, suited. I kept calling my Jack Nine suited connectors ....wrong. Now I know.

Rick brought a "Boston Butt" and buns, in other words.......Bray Brings Boston Butt & Buns By Basement! It was delicious! Thanks Rick!

And Thanks to Justin! He has been our Primary Dealer for a year now, ever since Spidey moved away. Justin does a great job! Even with all the "abuse" we all give him. We know how hard it is and we really appreciate you dealing for us every week! Keep up the good work. Thanks to Rudy too! Rudy is doing a good job dealing for table 2, I think he has been winning more too!

No one at Sam's Town seemed to care about all the WNBP shirts in the Poker Room at Sam's Town, that is, until two of 'em were still around with only 25 people left in Saturday Night's BIG Texas Hold 'em Tournament. (192 Players) and one still in at the Final Table! Who was it? None other than WNBP's own BIG JOHN McEWEN ! BIG JOHN CHOPPED THE POT NINE WAYS AT THE FINAL TABLE and took home $2300.00 ! CONGRATULATIONS BIG JOHN ! You did us PROUD! Believe it or not, it was…..

Saturday night tournament had 192 players. We all started with $5000 in chips. 2nd hand of the tournament, I have pocket 8's. I limp in, regular player at the end of the table calls, flop comes 8, 5, J. I have trip 8's, player at the end of the table bets $2500. I call, turn card is my fourth 8. Player at the end of the table goes all in, I call. He turns up a full house, 5's full of 8's. I turn up my quad 8's, he gets pissed and storms out, 2nd hand of the tournament. About 15 minutes later, the girl to my left that put Paul Galloway out for the morning tournament and cashed in 12th place, has A, Q. I have pocket K's. I bet $1600, she calls, flop comes K, A, A. She goes all in for her $5000 chips, I call. Turn and River were something, Something. I win with K's full of A's. Tippled up early in the game. The rest was easy. I got a lot of respect every time I bet the rest of the night. Folded a lot of hands and did not get mixed up in very many challenges. I made it to the final table with nine players and ended up chopping the pot with $2300 going to each player. Not a single person asked me what the WNBP stood for on my black shirt all day long. I was in that poker room from 0900 in the morning until almost 0100 the next morning. After the tournament, I had a double hand full of players come up to me and ask me what WNBP stood for. Pretty funny! I had a great time in my first casino poker tournament. Thanks to Ronnie for showing me the ropes and putting everything together. I look forward to the next tournament.

I played in 3 tournaments this weekend.
On Friday night, there was over 100 people, I couldn't get my head in the game, so I was out in thirty-something place.

On Saturday night, there were 192 people and I finished 23rd and money started at 18. So close!! Congratulations to Big John, he chopped the pot with 4 or 5 other players but I'll let him tell that story.

On Sunday morning, there were 52 people and Marla and I were at the final table together.
There were 10 people at the final table and Marla was Big Blind, she called 2 short stack All Ins preflop.
I started sweating for her. I was afraid for her to go up against 2 players.
Player 1 turned over pocket Jacks. Player 2 turned over Ace/Queen offsuit. Marla turns over Ace/King
suited (I think). The flop comes Ace, King, little card. Marla has 2 pair now - aces and kings.
The turn card is an Ace! Marla has a full house!! The other 2 are drawing dead now!! Marla raked in
the biggest pile orange chips ($1000 chips) I ever saw.
We chopped the pot when we got down to 6 people, so each of us got $375. Marla had never played in a tournament at a casino before this weekend. Congratulations, Marla!!!

Thanks to Kurt for watching over us this weekend!! During the Saturday night tournament, my sugar level was dropping and so was my focus. Thanks, Kurt for bringing me food during the tournament. My sugar level recovered and so did my focus!

The "MARLA" Experience............

Kurt said he was the only one left to congratulate John on his win that night! He really supported everyone all weekend!
My favorite hand came before Kathy moved to my table. I had just sat my drink down, the dealer said ante up, so I could be part of that hand. I did so, and peaked at my cards. Didn't even get a chance to sit down. The flop came queen nine six. The guy on the other end of the table went all in, the guy next to him went all in, and so did I. The first guy stood up, cheered, and said "Pocket 9's", everyone went ohhhhhhhhhhh. The next guy threw his hand in, and they looked at me. Still standing, I said but I've got the ladies! Loved my trip queens! Knocked out 2 men, the ladies will do that for you :).
It was so nice to then sit down and play. Two hands later, Kathy moved to my table, and I was scared to death :). Handled myself pretty good with her :). Before we were moved to the final table, I figured out she was stealing the blinds and joined in. I also bluffed a big pot, looked at Kathy and she knew. I was so proud! Finally figured out position :). Wish I had not been so nervous the first part of the weekend, but next time, watch out :). Congrats to John for cashing in on the "BIG ONE"! And thanks to Kurt, Kathy, and Guy for all their support in my first poker experience! And I'm so sorry I lost Ronnie, he is a sneaky, quick one :).

Here are my comments to the Tunica Trip. Congratulations to Big John, Kathy, and Marla for cashing in the tournaments. Thanks again to Ronnie for hosting and Christopher for doing a lot of work during the trip. Even with the tire issue, I had a great time. I especially enjoyed playing cards and learning new games on the ride down and back with Jason, Christopher, Brad, and Ann.I will only discuss the two hands that got me out of both tournaments, so that others may learn from my experience and I can make corrections for future tournaments.I survived both tournaments to about 50% of the starting field.Morning Tournament Experience: The young lady that Big John put out in the evening tournament put me out in the morning tournament.She has pocket jacks.I have Ace/Jack suited and late position and I am getting a little short stacked with antes and blind taking more and more.Flop comes 3, 9, JShe goes all in quickly. No other callers, it comes to me in late position. I start thinking. She even tells me she has a strong hand as I am thinking about calling. I do not believe her and call which puts me all in.Turn and River come 5, A. She wins with trip jacks. She goes on to finish in the money and I go back to the RV.Lesson: If a new/inexperienced player tells you they have a strong hand with a straight face, you may want to believe them. She had also played and won many hands before that and I did not think she could keep getting great cards. My mistake had put me out. Probably should have been a little more aggressive earlier to build up my chip stack and not force me into a call with weaker cards.Evening Tournament Experience: Big John and I were at the same table, both wearing WNBP shirts.Blinds and antes were quickly eroding my meager chip stack. I had about the starting amount in chips ($5000), but most folks have more at this point since half the field is gone.I have pocket kings and go all in early position.A veteran calls with Ace, 10 suited in late position.I feel good about doubling up since he has only 3 outs other than the suited cards.Flop does not hit either of us; turn comes Ace, no help to me on the river, so he wins.No mistake here, just bad luck. It was about a 50/50 situation that did not go my way.I really enjoying watching Big John double up on the second hand with quads. The tournament veteran he put out stormed away from the table. Great trip. Looking forward to the next one (the over 50 WPT circuit event in January) I had several folks ask about my shirt. I told them we were a poker playing cult that hoards weapons and sacrifices virgins in a basement in Alabama. (JK, Ronnie). I think our group gained some respect and many of the dealers and other players at Sam’s Town are getting to know us by name and face.

I am not a young man anymore and even with the small issues we had on the trip, it was one of the most fun trips I have ever been on. I had a great time relaxing and playing cards on the way up and back. Even though I did not do well at the poker tables, I truly enjoyed my trip. The minor stuff just makes the trip more memorable.I appreciate all the work you and Christopher did in preparing and executing the trip. Your are an expert planner and a great host. The RV trip was "Eventful" ……

We started out just after 12 on Friday, Rolling down I-565, near Greenbrier, we had a left rear tire EXPLODE! It sounded like a shotgun blast, looking out my left side mirror I could see tire fragments hitting the cars in the left lane. ( we were in the right lane) I eased off onto the emergency lane. We could see that it was the inside tire of the dual tire configuration. Completely shredded! The mud flap bracket was folded up as well. Christopher and Brad and Paul worked in the hot sun to get the damaged bracket off the tire. We limped on down the road with just the one tire. We were directed to a Truck-tire center in Decatur. I explained our plight to the owner and he said it would be at least a half hour before he could get to us. That’s when DOLLAR BILL went into action!

I don't know what Bill said to the man, all I know is Bill waved us in immediately! They jumped on it! Pulled the spare out from underneath, swapped it out! They were done in 15 minutes. I was called into the office to pay the bill, I'm thinking $100.00 Paul was thinking $75. The man punches some keys on his computer and says: "$25" ! I had to ask him to repeat it, yup, only $25. He turned out to be a good guy, I think dollar Bill set him straight! Thanks Bill!

Back on the road, eating sandwiches, taking it easy, we come up on a "wide load" on 72. It’s a big mobile home 14 foot wide with escort trucks. I moved into passing position. Mater was in the passenger seat at the time, he says, "you aint gonna try to pass him are ya" ? I said hell yeah! You'll never make it! ……Watch this boys!! I got on the CB radio and told the escorts and driver that the RV behind them was going to attempt a pass. They responded, bring it on! Just let us know when. ....on the next downhill I'm coming! I stayed way left and rolled! Mater said he couldn’t watch! Others where holding their breath. We had a least 4 inches to spare! We cleared it no problem. GOOD JOB came back over the CB Radio! Mater says you couldn’t have put a sheet of paper between our mirror that that rig!
Later on, well into Mississippi, the weather started looking bad, dark clouds ahead. Christopher got on the computer/internet and saw MAJOR STORMS ahead of us. Big Blobs of Red, yellow and green 100's of miles wide! He pinpointed our location with the GPS and advised we pull over and wait. I had no problem with that because the wind was already trying to blow us off the road. We were hit with heavy rain and wind for a long time. After the worst of it passed we headed on. We got reports of trees down everywhere. Power was out for over 130,000 people. Big John was about an hour ahead of us in his van, he called to warn us about the weather, he said a road sign blew right over the top of his van! As we approached Olive Branch we could see the power out everywhere. The traffic signals were out as well, it took forever to get through an intersection! Man, what a trip! We finally made it to Sam's Town after 7 Friday night. it took over seven hours! Paul was quick to hand me a cold brew when we hit the parking lot! I needed it! We got set up, Christopher grilled hamburgers, and we chilled for a while.

Saturday was full of action! Judging from the stories submitted! I guess I might have started with the Coors Light a bit too early on Saturday, NOON! I sat down at a 3 -6 Limit game and played pretty well. I folded A LOT, only played a hand now and then and usually won! I had several free Coors Light. I was still ahead and playing the same game when they came around asking for people to sign up for the BIG Tournament Saturday night. I gave them my $150. I managed to play a few hands in the tournament but I got put out early. I went down to the Craps table and played with Mater and Ann. The guy rolling before me had a very good roll and we were all up! My roll was very good also! I was told later that I was too loud! How can you be too loud at a craps table? I was hollering….. 2 DOLLAR HIGH LOW ……DOLLAR YO! ….INSIDE! …..HARD SIX! I won the table a bunch of money! The next shooter did well too. I should have cashed out at that point, up maybe $200. But no, I played until I gave it all back. Oh well, it WAS FUN! Thank goodness I squirreled away $300 back in the RV or it would have been gone too! I made it back to the RV on my own! Thanks for all the people looking out for me. All I can say is I needed to RELAX after the trip Friday! I'm sorry I missed the Steak cookout at the RV Saturday, early evening. Paul and Christopher set it up and several people took advantage. I had my 2 steaks at midnight! That’s pretty much my story as far as play. Christopher is writing his story….. did well at the cash games.

Mater said after I left the craps table, he took over. He had the whole table shouting ….WINNER, WINNER, WHATS FOR DINNER? I think the old saying is winner, winner, Chicken dinner. But that’s OK, it worked! Just like me he had a bunch of chips! We need to learn how to put some in our pockets, before they get away! Sounds like he may have had close to $400 worth of chips before the table went cold. He left the table with enough money for him and Ann to play other games. I'm glad Mater and Ann got to see how much fun craps can be. If you can get everyone at the table cheering and having a good time, your doing it right! Mater did it! It was really the first time he ever really played, we taught him the basics just prior to the trip! Mater said he was on a "come-out" roll and hit several 7's, which is a front line winner, he hit it over 6 times and everyone was increasing their front line bets. Mater was encouraging the increased bets, stating, put your money down! Another 7 coming up! and he would roll another seven! THE PITT BOSS CAME UP, TOOK THE DICE AND TOLD THE BOX MAN TO PUT OUT NEW DICE. Mater had no choice but to pick two new nice, that was the end of his runs of 7's. I have never seen that done and I think it sucks! Never the less, good roll Mater!

Sleeping 6 guys in the RV worked pretty well. Me and Brad in the Master bed. (we stayed separated) (no spooning) !!!!! Paul had the master bedroom floor. He looked comfortable. All three of us wore our CPAP Machines, it looked like an intensive care ward with all of us on LIFE SUPPORT ! That reminds me of a story….. I woke up in the middle of the night, needed to pee. I kept my mask on, just disconnected the hose and went in the bathroom, when I popped out the bathroom door, Jason was there, my mask must have scared the crap out of him, he said "holy s--t" I just chuckled and crawled back in the sack. Jason slept on the table/bed, Dollar Bill had the couch/foldout and Christopher had his recliner (his favorite place to sleep) . Jason found Christopher asleep outside in a lawn chair, dew drops already forming on his face. Maybe that why Christopher was feeling poorly Saturday!

Sunday morning we were all rudely awakened at 7 am by the sound of THUNDER! Another major storm was upon us! Heavy rain, wind, thunder and lightning! Christopher got the radar up and warned us to get ready to seek shelter. I wasn’t going anywhere! It if meant ending up in the Mississippi River upside down in a sinking RV, so be it! Lucky for us, the storm passed. Later, we all got up and started getting ready. Wait, we all got up except Brad. Brad was "tired" so we let him sleep in. I think he got up after we crossed the Alabama state line. That’s one of the advantages of having an RV!

Speaking of the Alabama State line, it was right about there when a fellow motorist pulled up on our left and signaled us to pull off the road! What now? *SIGH* "your left rear tires are wobbling and look like they may come off" Dang it. Yes, it’s the one we replaced! Yes, the nuts were loose, 2 studs were broke off! (eight studs total) I guess the shop guy failed to get the lugs tight enough. We had no lug wrench. I knew Big John was about 5 miles behind us. I called him, he stopped, and we tried his lug wrench, too small of course. Christopher found a small adjustable wrench and tightened the remaining lugs as tight as he could. Big John was our SPOTTER! He kept an eye on us while we headed on down the road. Paul spotted an auto parts store, we stopped, Big John to the rescue! He bought us a killer lug wrench tool thingy ($35). He kindly donated it to us! Thanks Big John! Me and Dollar Bill found a concrete block, placed it under the rear hydraulic jack and got the tire off the ground. The block crumbled but held just long enough for Christopher to tighten the lug nuts. We were fine after that. We still had Big John watching for anything else to fly off the RV. As we rolled down I-565 I called Big John, thanked him for his help and sent him on his way. Thanks a bunch Big John!

No one wanted to deal table 2! I was about to do it myself when Rudy volunteered! At the end of the night Rudy was the Big Winner! Reward for his effort! Thanks Rudy and good job!

We had 15 players and a lot of action! Dollar Bill won the first HH and Big John won the other one with QUAD TENS! Billy WOULD have won it but he screwed up! He admitted the error. He was sitting with QUAD ACES, Justin Raises the bet in front of him, then, Billy raises it to TEN BUCKS! .....everyone folds, he won the hand but gave up the High Hand! I have done it too, never again, I bet Billy wont do it again either!

Kurt lost a bunch of money in a hurry and headed home early! Justin lost and cut out early also. I lost a bunch too! No worries, we will all win it back in TUNICA this weekend!

June starts off with a Straight Flush

The very first hand of this month resulted in a Straight Flush for Christopher! 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 of diamonds! (4 of the cards were on the board). Congratulations! He won 6 bucks! ...only 4 of us were in at the time. Christopher won the first hand and ole DAD won the last hand of the night. I had been down all night, 4 buy-ins, the last hand we combined tables and had 11 players, I ended up with a straight and won the $43 pot! It put me up $23 !

We had 20 players! Lots of Action! Thanks to Justin and Christopher for dealing! We missed WAYNE, but, he will be back soon, we heard he destroyed the some major equipment on his first day at work in Oklahoma! Actually, it was apparently no big deal, the thing was worn out anyway, Wayne just happened to be the one working it at the time. Hang in there Wayne!

Rex held a clinic on CRAPS last night, good job REX, we really appreciate it! I BET we will need another one soon! A lot of folks couldn't make it last night. Rick and Jackie Babe made it as well as Jason and me and "the boy". Rick is a "hard-way" shooter! and Jason is a "come-bet" player! LOL.

We started out with bad luck, we took our turns throwing the dice but none of us could hit our point! We heard a lot of "SEVEN-OUT" ! from the dealer REX. Jason was the first to finally hit is point. We thought Jackie Babe could get things going but it was not to be, good try Jackie! It was ME, "RONNIE BALL" !! that finally got on a ROLL!!!! We all took a big chunk of "house money" on that roll, too bad it was play money!

Rex left the table in the basement so its available for future classes or play. Thanks again Rex, good job!

May 27 -Dealer's Night

I gave it back! I won a bunch of money last week but I gave most of it back last night! That's the way it goes! We had a good crowd again! Wayne came back to see us! Wait, he was here last week... last time? Well, Wayne is really leaving for Oklahoma this time! I'm glad we got to see him again, I bet he was glad he played! He won a bunch! $46! Congratulations Wayne!

I had an "OPEN HOUSE" last night, a few players got to tour the RV! We are getting ready for the big WNBP TRIP TO TUNICA! Its looking good! As of now the RV IS FULL! 10 people traveling and 8 people sleeping. This is definitely the biggest group ever for this trip! I just reserved our RV Spot at SAM's TOWN! Its gonna be great! 2 weeks from tomorrow!

Congratulations to Jason! He won the High Hand for the FIRST Time! He had AAA66 for HH#1 and won $22! Big John won the other HH with QQQQ $34! Congratulations!

Thank you all for your thoughts, prayers and gifts. I am still in Connecticut with my family, I just wanted to take time on this quiet morning to let you know how much it meant to me. The gifts given were used to buy a nice dinner for my family after the visitation for my dad. Mom was fast with the credit card, i was faster with the money. As our great friend Joey said in a similar email a few months back. If your parents are with you, call them tell them how much you love them. We take for granted that they will always be here.....let them know you are thinking of them. Again with all my heart. Thank you.

Farewell to Wayne

Wayne is moving to Oklahoma to run a big Concrete Corporation!...

We will miss you very much Wayne! You were one of the "regulars", you hardly ever missed a night at WNBP and you were one of our primary dealers. You never lost your cool dealing for us, I know it takes a lot of patience and Its not easy, you make it look easy! You are truly one of the "Good Guys", we will miss you very much. I'm keeping you on the email list and I hope you can come back and join us from time to time. Good luck in your new adventure in Oklahoma!

I want to thank Rick and everyone for pitching in for Rudy. Rudy is on his way to Connecticut to say farewell to his Father. We gave him a nice card to go with the donations. Rick brought a bottle of Bookers and we toasted Rudy's father. I think we caught him "off guard", he appreciated the thought very much.

Speaking of Rudy, he won a big hand off Big John..... The flop was Jack 3 Jack, the Turn was another Jack, at which point Rudy Shouts out CHECK! We all know what that means... "new high hand" ! Rudy checks his Quad Jacks and a 3 comes on the River, Rudy Checks again but ole Big John decides to "push" him off by betting big! Rudy calls and shows his Jack! Here's a tip.... its hard to push a player off Quad Jacks! Its all right John, we all screw up every now and then, Like Joey last week.... didn't see the Flush! And Rick "I thought I had a Jack".

We had a good crowd last night, 19 Players! I myself had a very good night, I won over $90 bucks! I was getting good cards, no skill, just luck, like I say, its EASY to win when you get good cards! I was like butter ...on a roll! and like Big O says ...Ride the WAVE! it was fun! I managed to stay for the entire event too, unlike last week! I still have no clue as to the "squeel" last week!

It was good to see my Cousin/Neighbor Rex Garrison! He was not at my table, I hope you guys didnt scare him off! Rememer the plan ... let him win the first night, get him to come back and THEN take him! LOL I think he came out up a little. I lost track after the Bookers started to flow.

Mater, Christopher, Jesse and myself were the first to arrive at the lake house Friday Morning. I had to tow our trailer in order to get all our "Gear" down there. We had and enormous amount of BEER on board, If the law had stopped us in the dry counties they would have to assume we were bootleggers! Luckily we made it without getting stopped. We got a call from Paul, he said Spidey had to fly out of Houston early because of bad weather approaching. We set up a laptop, got on the Internet and monitored Spidey's Flight. It was neat to watch his every move.

The 4 of us decided to get started on the Cold BEER! we were kicking back, getting fishing poles ready and watching Spidey's flight.

Meanwhile.......

Guy, Brad and Kurt where having "issues" Getting Brad's boat from Guntersville Dry dock to Smith Lake. Guy was kind enough to use his Ford F-150 Truck to do the towing. The first problem was that Brad's trailer was in a storage lot but was blocked in! It took a while but they finally got it out. So lets hook it up to the Truck, right? Seems Mr. McKay forgot his trailer hitch! So its off to the store to buy a brand new hitch! Once they got the boat loaded on the trailer they headed toward Smith Lake, I think they stopped for lunch, then they stopped to Gas up the boat. They had an issue getting up to the pumps, I wont go into detail but Guy felt so bad about it that he insisted on paying the $75 fuel bill for the boat. It it over 7 hours for them to get from Huntsville, Guntersville to Smith Lake!

Paul was the next to arrive at the house, the 5 of us got in Paul's boat to meet up with Brad and help him get his boat over to Paul's deck, As we approached the boat ramp we saw Brad's boat, floating freely with Brad on board cleaning it up. Paul wanted to do some fishing so I jumped in Brad's boat and drove it back to Paul's dock. Christopher joined us while Mater and Jesse went fishing with Paul. When we got back Kurt and Guy had just arrived with the truck.

Not too long after that Spidey arrived! Spidey's good friend, Mazzle, picked him up at the Cullman airport.

Friday Evening Paul let us ride his SEA-DOO! That thing was FAST! Riders were.....

Paul, Jesse, Sean, Me, Christopher, Spidey and Guy! Of course, Spidey looked like a Professional out there! Christopher did pretty good with it as did Paul. I was just glad I didn't flip it over or crash into something!

Later Friday night we Feasted on Fried Fish, Hush Puppies, French fries, Grilled Chicken, Grilled Pork Tenderloin and a bunch of other goodies. It was delicious! It was about that time when the liquor started to flow! Brad seem to have brought enough stuff to stock a bar! Same thing with Kurt! You name it, they probably had it.... Vodka, Whiskey, Scotch who knows what all!

Poker Friday night was fun, we had Spidey dealing just like old times. Brian drove down from Huntsville to join in, I think he won a little cash. I don't have any results but I know we all had fun. Some of them stayed up late. I don't know how they can do that, I went to sleep at midnight. I brought an old Army Cot to sleep on it it was very comfortable. Guy had to sleep on the deck that night, his air mattress looks like a king size bed! There was no space left in the house for it. Christopher let Guy use his Army issue Sleeping bag to help keep him warm out there. Kurt brought a new style bed, he said he was done with air mattresses, he had a foam tri-fold type deal. I heard he needed help getting it set up at 3 AM, also needed help getting on it ;-) ...something about vodka? ;-)

Saturday morning I got up first and started frying the bacon, Mater had brought us some custom thick sliced bacon from Star Market, it was great. Paul scrambled eggs, we all enjoyed a good breakfast, then it was time for Fishing!

The sky was overcast and it was windy, it was a bit cool during the early hours. We stayed in the same coves (Brad's boat and Paul's boat). We didn't catch very many fish, Guy caught a small Bass. It was fun just relaxing just being out on the boats. The wind died down and it warmed up quiet a bit. At around 2 o clock we heading for the middle of the lake to Grill out on the water! Brad's boat has a small grill that mounts on the side of the boat, it uses small propane canisters for fuel. We tied the boats together and enjoyed fresh off the grill Hamburgers and Hotdogs. Kurt brought his famous foot long dogs and Brad had made up some damn good hamburger paddies seasoned with several secret ingredients , they were awesome! Brad was well prepared, he had all the fixins, Thanks a bunch to Brad and Kurt for planning our "Grilling Lunch on the lake". It was a great idea and was well worth the effort! No more baloney sandwiches for Saturday's lunch! Unfortunately, Kurt missed out, I think he was tired and needed a little nap! ;-)

We didn't catch many fish. Paul caught 2 good sized catfish at his dock using a "jug". Mater caught 2 fish, Guy and Paul caught some.

Saturday night it was more FOOD, FUN and excitement! The cooking was a joint effort that included Paul, Brad, Kurt, Guy, Christopher and Jesse. I can't describe just how tasty Paul's fish is! He knows how to cook fish! All the food was perfecto! After food, more Poker! I was lucky that night, I won about $20! Mater took some photos of my chip stack! .....(photos later).
Again, no results but lots of fun. I went to bed early again. Others stayed up past 3 or 4 AM!

Sunday morning I fried the bacon again, Paul did the eggs, Brad made Pancakes!

Then it was time to clean up and head back home!
Spidey flew back to Houston safely despite some weather issues.

Announcement! -- Paul says he has enough fish in his Freezer to throw a FISH FRY at WNBP!
Lets set a date! Lets make it a "businessman's Special" (start at NOON)

The Police didn't show up last night, too bad, they could have joined us and had a blast like we did! Rick did show up and FLASH his "Badge" and ordered us all up against the wall, he barely got a glance from the players!

Rudy treated us all to another case of his famous home BREW! I told him he is going to be the next Samuel Adams! Maybe instead of Boston Lager, call it BAMA Lager !

It was good to have Joey join us late, he needed a break. He sent out a nice email today thanking all who pitched in for his Mother. I'm including it here so all of us can read it.....

I just wanted to thank you all for donating money in my mothers honor to the Toney Fire Department. As I’ve told Ronnie before, I’m like a kid on Christmas morning when Wednesday’s roll around and I can’t wait to get to poker that night. It’s not the poker I enjoy; it’s the fellowship with each of you. I could lose $50 a week and still consider myself a winner, because I have about 40 new friends that I wouldn’t have had if Ronnie hadn’t started up the WNBP. My mother was a very special lady who treated any of my friends as if they were her own, and I have no doubt you all would be one of her own. April's Full Moon

It was "different" last night. Fun, but different. We had 17 players but several people had to leave early. We went to 2 tables, then, we went back down to one table. We dropped down to 12 players at 8:30 and went down to one table. I like 12 players, occasionally, wouldn't wont to do it all the time. Several of our guys were "under the weather" Feeling not 100% were Rick, Rudy and Joey. Get well soon guys!

We collected some stuff for Guy's "care package" last night, Thanks! In case you haven't heard........ Guy gets to come home next week! After over 2 months away from home he gets to come back just in time for Paul's Big Fishing and Poker weekend!!!! Instead of mailing the package, lets give it to him at Paul's Lake house next weekend! Still time to add more stuff for him. Thank you, Joey, for making this happen, I know Guy will appreciate it!

Lots of action last night, I was at table 1 but I heard about a BATTLE of POCKET PAIRS at table 2...... Lots of all-ins PRE FLOP, Paul had Aces, others had Kings, Queens etc. Paul's Aces held up and he won the huge pot! Table 1 was up and down all around, we took turns being chip leader, well all except Jason and Mater..... Jason kept coming up short, 2nd best or kicker got him every time, he was on his "last" $5 when he came back a bit. Mater tried hard to make things happen, but it wasn't his night. Brad was way up, then down, same for Kurt, Justin and myself.

Guy takes a Break

Guy took a much deserved break and send this report,,,,,,,

Last weekend I took off for a day and 1/2.
Kathy (being the wonderful woman and wife that she is) had encouraged me to take a break.
It was six weeks of being here. Pretty much non stop.

They have a Casino 2 hrs from my grandparents home.
It's called Seneca Alleghany Casino.
It is located on the Seneca Indian Tribe Reservation, if I understand correctly.

Because they have a monopoly up here, room rates are crazy...so
She booked me a room at a very nice Holiday Inn Express/suites. Jacuzzi, fireplace, kingsize bed..gift basket...yes, I have a great wife. They have a massive Casino area just a little smaller than the Grand/Harrahs in Tunica but nicer.

The poker room was actually built with the buffet and convention center as an add on.It is away from the casino, quiet, non-smoking, has a cafe just outside the door to the right with bathroom and the buffet to the left.Tournaments usually daily. So I went to relax and play poker and left them for all of Sunday and till about 6pm Monday. They were fine and I had a great time. I played in a tourney as soon as I got there and busted out in 15-20 minutes....yep you heard right.
Then I played in a 1-2 no limit cash game and dropped my $200 quickly also. Ok time to head to the room.I ate the prime rib at the buffet, it was terrific. The buffet is smaller than the Sam's town but about twice as big as Hollywood.Food was great. Went back to the room and crashed in the jacuzzi. Relaxed for a long time, went back and ate in one of the three other dining areas in the casino.
It's really pretty big. Started playing the 1-2 no limit again. It was wild, money going everywhere but I wasn't getting any cards. Started playing suited and connected.
I went from 175 to 250. Then had 9-10 and the board came 782, turn was a 6. Younger man across from me bets $25, I raise to $50 and he reraises to $100.
I move all in with the remaining $250 thinking we will split but he has the bottem end of the straight and I win. going up over $500.
I had some of the smaller pots after that. Three of us closed the poker room at 2:30am. Me with $860, another guy with about $500 and the big winner with about $1600-2000.
He was a little drunk when he came in around 10pm and dropped $500 and then the guy who took his money was being a real ass....guess what he lost it all back and about $300 more. Nobody wanted him win and he went crazy. Lost all of it back to the guy who dropped it to begin with.
Wild hand of the night,2 Full houses against the drunk who had a straight flush to the queen. If either of the other two had had Quads, we would have split a $100,000 bad beat jackpot.
We had quads like 6 times in 5 hrs, almost as much fun as WNBP. I played again Monday at 11am and dropped from the tourney in 9th. Only paid top 4. Lost $75 in the cash game and about $60 at the video poker.
Again ate the buffet and prime rib. Drove home, happy, relaxed and recharged.
If you don't count the room., gas and food, I would have been up about $180 for the trip.

Update on our man Guy in PA March 30th

Hi Everyone, It's been almost 2 weeks since my last Guy update, so I thought I would send one today. The VA has approved paying for Dion's chemo therapy. They gave him the pills at last week's doctor's appt so he didn't have to wait for them to be mailed. He is taking 1 pill a day and it has had some fatigue side effects but he doing quite well with it. For the first time since before Feb 14th, Guy was able to drive Dion to the shooting range last Saturday and Dion was able to do some shooting and visit with his shooting buddies. Dion is such a good shooter that he wins almost all of the competitions that he enters.

Grandma Church is very happy to be home but she still hasn't regained all her strength. She usually is the one who washes the dishes (yes, they do not have a dishwasher) but she is not strong enough to stand long enough to wash the dishes. She is working to keep up her execises (when she can) to regain her strength. She has 2 doctor's appointments (on 2 different days) this week.

Guy thinks they have all the legal paperwork that was needed, done. Living wills, wills, power of attorney, and other paperwork. The lawyer even made a visit to their house to finalize all the paperwork. I never heard of a lawyer that made house calls before.

The VA doctor had ordered Hospice to come in. The VA will pay for 6 months of Hospice, so they decided to let Hospice come in and access the situation. A Hospice lady came to the house to access the situation and to let them know how Hospice can help. They are waiting to hear back from her. Guy has been checking on and setting up all the services that are availabe. Meals on Wheels is going to start bringing 1 meal a day - 5 days a week, the American Cancer Society gave them a $300 gas card to use when they go to doctor's appointments, and there are other services Guy is still working on. It sure is nice to know that there is help out there.

Guy is still keeping up with the paperwork, appointments, and medicines for both patients, cleaning house, cooking, grocery shopping, getting the oil changed in the vehicles, doing some yard work. He is still in the process of replacing a broken handrail so Grandma Church can use the handrail when she walks up the steps into the house. That task is almost done. He is still staying busy everyday. He still enjoys getting emails from friends and family.

BIG Night for BIG O

Big O could do no wrong last night! "Don't be mad" he would say as he showed his winning cards, over and over! He would FLOP the NUTS, or at least get a straight, flush or boat on the FLOP! At least he was not being a Chip Bully, he would just call or check, let us hang ourselves! One hand Big O had pocket 5's and the board had the other 2 5's! QUAD 5's !! the Very Next hand he gets Pocket Jacks and the other 2 Jacks show up on the board! "Don't be mad" he says, as he looked toward the exit, checking for a clear path to run out! Several players were waiting for more people to show up, so they could move to Table 2 and get away from Big O! We had 11 players when Big John Showed up! You should have seen everyone jumping over to table 2 and welcoming Big John! The BRAVE players STAYED at Big O's Table.... It was Kurt, Justin, Dollar Bill, Steve and me! ...Congratulations Big O! Couldn't happen to a nicer guy! AND Thanks for the Free Chicken Wings and Chicken Strips!

Kathy McKay's Tunica Report........

Tunica was magical. It was an amazing and unbelievable trip. Hollywood had drawings for cash prizes every hour from 1pm to midnight on Saturday. Twenty people won at each hour. Amanda and Virginia were like 2 little girls laughing, talking, and having fun. They were running (yes, I do mean running) between the room, the slot machines, and the stage where the drawings were held. Virginia won at 3 of the drawings. Virginia won a jackpot twice on the same machine! The next day, Amanda won the jackpot twice on the same machine (not Virginia ’s machine). I cashed in 2 tournaments on Saturday at Sams Town. I played a cash game and made $100 and then I got high hand of the hour and I got to spin a wheel and won $75. We enjoyed a meal meal at Fairbanks where Adrian treated us like royalty and fluffed our potatoes!

My stats for this trip is played 6 tournaments, cashed in 2, made the final table 3 times. I burst the bubble and finished in 6th place in one, chopped one with 6 others, chopped with 4 others, finished 11th in one, and 16th in 2 tournaments. All of them had about 45-50 people in them.

I had lots of memorable hands this weekend and I will keep it short by only sharing one of them. I decided to take a bunch of chips from the arrogant chip bully so I waited for my hand. Well about 10 minutes later, I got pocket aces, I pretended to be the timid, unsure woman at the table when I min raised. He raised about $2000, I again played the timid, unsure woman and reluctantly went “All In”. He called instantly. I doubled up and he lost a third of his chips. I was smiling as I racked in the chips. I rattled him so bad, he played poorly and he was out about 30 minutes later.

Here are some comments that I got this weekend.

I checked on the turn and one of the players checked and another raised. I called the raise and the first guy folded. I won with the straight and the first guy said “I knew you had the straight on the turn.” I asked him how he knew. He said “Your chest turned red when the turn card came and I knew you had the straight.” (I guess I’ll have to start wearing turtleneck shirts, I can’t control whether or not my chest turns red.)

At the end of one of the tournaments, 7 of us had decided to chop the prize money evenly. While the 7 of us were standing around waiting to be paid, one of the men looked at me and said “You are a good poker player.” For a man to single me out with that kind of compliment in the midst of all the winners just surprised me and encouraged me.

Only one person at the table had more chips than me and 2 men were angry about my strategy. The blinds and antes were 100/400 800, so I was going all in when I was in position. We went on break and 1 of them asked me if I wanted some advice on how to play poker! I said No but I wished I would have said that I had been trained by Anne Duke, a professional poker player, and that I had cashed in 2 tournaments yesterday and I had cashed in 8th place in a World series of Poker event in January. Did he want some advice! (I can think of come backs after about 30 minutes but not in the moment)

All 3 of us went home a winner! It really was magical to watch a 23 year old and a 79 year old “playing” together and having so much fun and of course it was fun winning!

No Spring Break at WNBP

We had another good turnout at WNBP last night despite it being Spring Break week for most. 16 players! We had 5 players very early.......

The very first hand I get pocket 8's, the other 2 eights came on the FLOP! I took HH #1 on the first hand! It was only ten bucks but I'll take it!
Big O won the second HH with Quad 4's! $24. He beat out Justin's Battleship Boat; AAAKK in the final minutes!

Later on I had the battleship boat; AAAKK and it was good enough to take HH#3 $22.It was looking like I was going to win HH #4 with KKKJJ, BUT, with FOUR SECONDS to go, Justin hits AAA99 and takes it for $20! I would have felt bad if I had won 3 out of 4 HH's -----NOT!

Our man GUY called in from PA! He's having a tough time with his ailing relatives up there. It was good to hear from him, we had him on speaker phone and we all got to talk to him, I'm sure it was good for him to hear from all of us. WNBP misses you Guy! We are holding your seat! .....I mean, literally, we have your chair locked up in the back! Hope all turns out well for you and your family. I'm glad you called in!

Update on our man Guy in PA March 17th

Hi Everyone,

Grandma Church is leaving rehab (Elmira, NY) and going home tomorrow (Tuesday). She is really happy and pleased to be going home to her own bed and her own house.

Guy took Uncle Dion to see a VA doctor today in Bath, NY. They have decided that he is going to take the chemotherapy that the doctor (he is not a VA doctor) in Elmira, NY recommended last week. It will be 1 pill a day for 3 months. The pills will arrive in the mail. He will get 1 month at a time. It is quite expensive. A VA committee is reviewing his situation and if they approve this course of treatment, he should receive the pills in 10 days to 2 weeks and the VA benefits will cover the cost of the pills and all of his treatment.

Also, Dion's recliner broke last week and Guy hauled it to a repair shop. They picked it up on their way home today and it is good as new.

Guy is keeping up with the paperwork and medicines for both patients, cleaning house, cooking, grocery shopping, visiting Grandma Church 6 out of the last 7 days, driving Uncle Dion to all of his appointments, doing some yard work, and he is in the process of replacing a broken handrail so Grandma Church can use the handrail when she walks up the steps into the house. He is staying busy everyday. He is enjoying getting emails from friends and family.

Our 3 year old granddaughter, Lyndsey, spent the weekend with me. She wanted to know where Pop Pop was. I told her he was far away taking care of his sick grandma and uncle. She wanted to know what an "uncle" was. I explained as best as I could and she said "Tell my Pop Pop I miss him". I miss him too.

Full Moon, Natural Gas leak, nothing stops WNBP!

It was a full Moon last night! Strange things happen.........

There was a natural gas leak at the corner of Jeff and Douglass, they set up road blocks at all 4 accesses! We played on!

Some Players had to stay late rather than risk and altercation with the police. (they were everywhere)

Rick dealt for us at table 2, we had a lot of straights! I was on a roll for a while! They guys were glad to get a break, I had a friend drop by to borrow my "Tow Dolly" so they got a break from my winning ways while I took care of that. (Friend gave me $20 for my trouble) I was doing great! I ended up giving it all back but man, it was fun! Thanks for dealing Rick!.......

Update on Guy in PA

Good Morning Everyone,

Michelle made back to Huntsville this past weekend and on Sunday she traveled to Mobile. She had classes on Monday. Guy says she was a big help especially since there was one day when he needed to be in 2 places at the same time. I am so proud of Michelle, she went on this trip with the purpose of helping or being in service to her family (she could have been lounging on the beach with her friends). She helped with the housework, spent time talking with Uncle Dion and Grandma Church (Grandma Church was all lit up while she was talking with Michelle), and spent time talking with her Dad (he said it was really nice to speak to someone in person about what he is going through). She even washed her Dad's clothes! She may not realize it yet but she brought some sunshine and happiness to the situation while she was helping out!

Good News: Grandma Church has been moved to ReHab. Rehab is in the same hospital that she has been in, so she only had to move up one floor. She thought they were putting her in a nursing home and the state of PA was going to take everything she has. She was very upset until Guy was finally able to get her to understand she was going to Rehab and all she had to do was get strong enough to come home. She was approved for 100 days but she is hoping to get strong enough to go home in 2 or 3 days. (Guy thinks it might be 1 to 3 weeks) Guy says that her room looks more like a motel room than a hospital room, which is a nice change.

Uncle Dion's hair has started to fall out but his strength and appetite are returning. He has been cooking and even drove he and Guy to one of his doctor's appts yesterday. His goal is to get strong enough to do some skeet shooting (he wins most competitions).

Guy has Internet now (he is not piggy backing off the neighbor any more). His email address is mrguymckay@yahoo.com. He would love to have emails. He is spending his mornings with Grandma Church and taking Uncle Dion to his appointments in the afternoon. He is also handling a lot of paperwork, housework, errands, and keeping up with the medications for both patients. He is checking his email sometime between supper and bedtime.
