Kathy McKay is an honorary member of WNBP, she is the wife of Guy McKay and a Sister to me. (Ronnie) Kathy is a very good Poker Player and a great person as you can see in her story below, congratulations! Kathy!!!!!
Here is my short story.
World Series of Poker (WSOP) Ladies Event
267 players
I placed 8th and won $1554. First place got almost $13,000.
Sam's Town Tournament
114 players
We chopped the pot when we got down to 4 players. We gave the 2 short stacks $1000 each and I split what was left with the other chip bully so I won $2790.
I played at $70 Tournament at Sams Town and an $80 at Hollywood but I didn't make the money in those tourneys.
Here is my long story.
I went to Sams Town on Friday night and registered for the 7pm tournament. Then I found out it was a Rebuy Tournament so I did something I wouldn't usually do. I asked for my money back and got out of the Tournament. I went to Hollywood and registered for their 8pm Tournament. I finished 16th out of 27 people.
On Saturday I went to Harrahs to register for the World Series of Poker (WSOP) Senior Event. (Yes, I qualify for being old enough to play in the Seniors tournament) but it was unorganized and the people I was standing in a very long line with, were all angry about how WSOP was being managed. Then a guy came out told us that we were all alternates. So once again, I left a tournament that I really wanted to play. I went to Sam's Town and registered for their 7pm tournament. It cost $100 and there was 114 players.
When I got to the final table, I had the most chips but a guy named Eric was close behind me. Only 9 places paid out so we all voted to take $100 from the first place money and give it the 10th place winner. One of the short stacks asked if we all wanted to chop the pot before we started playing. I'll call him the angry man. The angry man asked Eric if he would chop but Eric looked at all the chip stacks and said No. The angry man tried to intimidate Eric into changing his mind. He went around the table asking everyone to chop and when he go to me he told Eric she will chop so you need to chop too. I said "Wait a minute. I don't want to chop. I am playing for 1st place." He said did a double take and just went on trying to get the others to chop. Well in a few minutes, Eric took the angry guy out. He left the table very angry. We played until there were 4 of us left. Eric suggested we give the 2 short stacks a $1000 each and he and I would split the rest. By this time Eric had more chips than me but we were still close. We both got $2790!
On Sunday, I played in the Sam's Town 11am tournament but I didn't do very well there so I went back to Harrah's and walked right up to the registration desk and there was no line at all and I registered for the WSOP Ladies' Event for $230. There were about 267 women in the tournament. This tournament paid the top 27 people. I finished in 8th place and got $1554.
Making the final table was exciting but the most fun I had all night was when we had about 50 people left, I got on a rush of cards that was so good that I couldn't get all my chips stacked from the last hand before I was racking in the chips from the current hand. Once all the premium hands that I was getting fizzled, I just kept betting as if I was still getting good cards, because everyone else was playing very tight so they could make the top 27. For about 30-40 minutes, I was just racking in the chips. I looked at the other tables during the break and I was in first place at that time. I decided to sit on my chips until the final table just so I could be assured to make the final table. I should have kept playing. By the time I got to the final table, I was a short stack with no power. I will play it different next time!
The WSOP Ladies' Tournament started at 4pm and I finished at 2am. I have never played a 10 hours in a tournament before. I had so much fun I didn't notice that that much time had passed. I loved it, I can't wait to do it again!
Thank You, Guy for supporting me to play my best and for being good with me going to Tunica while he went on a fishing trip. Thanks for supporting me on the phone during the breaks especially since some of the calls were between 11pm and 3am on Monday morning and during your poker games and your fishing times.
Thank You, Aunt Virginia for getting us free rooms and free food and for supporting me on the phone when I called you at times that you could be sleeping or playing the slots.
Thanks to all of you who wished me "Good Luck"! It paid off!
