Arrive Late for luck

July 31, 2008

We had 9 players….

1 Ronnie
2 Christopher
3 Brian ------Dealer
4 Little John – Pizza Guy
5 Joey
6 Paul
7 Big O
8 Wayne
9 Justin

I guess you need to arrive late. Justin arrived after 9, he had a job interview in Birmingham. He quickly made up for lost time, he won his first hand and then went on to win about every other hand!. He was riding his luck from his recent visit to Las Vegas, combine that with his usual luck (and skill I guess) at WNBP and you have a big winner! He beat Brian several times by a single rank! Justin also signed up for the final HH, even with the current HH at KKK44 (Little John) and, yes, he won that too! He won with KKKQQ. Justin also won a hand of “no-peek”.

Paul arrived late as well, he had some very nice hands but failed to cash in on it. Paul had a STRAIGHT FLUSH but was not in the HH! He later had 4 KINGS and says he didn’t bet it right. He also had 4 sixes late. Practice Practice Practice. He will play it better next time!

I have to mention my results; I stayed alive with my original buy-in most of the night, I finally lost it and had to re-buy, I won a big hand off Joey, late, I had pocket 7’s and the flop came 7 7 9. I bet a quarter. Joey was in “gambling mode”, it was late, it was after 10, we played till 10:30, anyway, Joey raised it to 75 cents, I just called him, at the turn I bet 50, he raised me again, I said “ALL-IN” he quickly called me, I had just over 5 bucks. “do you have a 7? Was the question, I said, got 2 of ‘em! Quad sevens, they helped me come out about 5 bucks ahead for the night, thanks Joey!

Big-O had a good night, well, almost, he had a big stack ALL NIGHT, after 10-o-clock things went downhill for him. He got in a big pot with Joey, this biggest pot of the night; $44.60 to be exact! Joey caught a FLUSH on the RIVER to take it down! Big-O made up for it by winning the “odd money” hand as well as a hand of “no-peek”. Joey actually left and came back, he had to get a piece of cake at his son's birthday party!

Christopher won a few big pots, he came out $10 ahead and went to bed early.

It was apparently Brian's his turn to get 2nd best hand all night and lost his limit but stayed to deal, Thanks for dealing Brian!

Little John was up for a while but lost a few close hands late. He won the first HH! Won it with a Jack High Straight, go figure! Thanks for getting the PIZZA! And- I forgot to get that “goodies” for you, apologies, senior moment.

Wayne had one of those nights where you get very nice pocket cards with a terrible flop, lost a bit. Here is the rundown…

Joey +42
Justin +37
Christopher +10
Ronnie +5
Big-O down for Hold ‘em but even overall
Paul down less than 5
Brian, Wayne, John ---- down a bit

I hope everyone had a good time, I know I did, win or lose but winning is better! Small group was nice for a change. Thanks, RB

Justin in Las Vegas

Justin Tarr went to Las Vegas last week, got to play with some “PROs”………

I met up with my friend at the Wynn poker room Friday night; He had put my name on the 1-2 no limit list so when I arrived I already had a spot. I checked in and they showed me to my table. Before I sat down I went to my friends table to talk to him; he asked where they put me; I showed him. He said get you name back on the list and ask for another seat. He said 3 of the guys are playing on the tour; One of the guys was in the $$ in this year’s WSOP, 2 of the other guys were Vegas pros and there was one tourist ( a woman ) He told me they would eat me alive and I would have no fun. I told him I wanted to sit there just for the story. I folded the first 7 hands which only cost me $3. The next hand I get K K, I bet $6 everyone folds (I win $3). The next hand I get 9 9, I bet $6 everyone folds ( I win $3.) The guy who won in the WSOP asked if I had ever played in a game like this before. I said Not at this level. He said let me give you some advice. We all know you are only playing pocket pairs and A K so nobody is going to play against you when you bet. Loosen up lose a couple of hands and it will help you win some $$. The next hand I get 6, 8 of clubs. I bet $6. everyone folds except for the guy who gave me the advice he says "Your not supposed to bluff on the very next hand lets make it $26. I said I was not ready to bluff and called him. The flop is Queen, Seven, Two all diamonds. I bet $6 he says I still don't believe you lets make it $46. I called. The turn is three of clubs. I bet $6 he says "No, another $46. I smiled and called again. The next card is 6 spades. I looked down and said I have $72 left and I'm all in. He looks down and says “Now I believe you have had the flush all along and so have I. He shows the Jack 6 of diamonds and folds his hand. I smile and slam my 6, 8 of clubs on the table and say "thanks for the advice" Two of the guys t the table say I can't believe you just made that play against him!! HE looks at me and says I want to give you one more piece of advice " Showing your hand like that in Alabama might be OK but here in my city it will get you shot" If you are man enough to bluff again DO NOT SHOW!" I folded the next three hands and left!! The next night I went to Harrah's and we were having a TERRIBLE gambling day. I took our last $100 to the poker room. My first hand I'm the big blind and I get Q 7 nobody raises and the flop is Q Q 9. Rainbow. I check and everyone else does too. The next card is a 7. I check and someone raises $25. I'm sure he's slow playing either Q 9 or 9 9. I call, the river doesn't help anybody its a 5. Again he bets $25. I call. He has rivered a pair of 5's. The very next hand I get K 4. I call my $1 I owe from the small blind. The flop is K A 4. I'm first and I check. The button raises $17 after everyone else folds I figure he is bluffing from position of he has A's. I raise $34. He come back with an immediate all in. I have him covered by $3. I call he says "I have 2 pair" My heart sunk and I was hoping he had K4 too. He flips over A 4. The turn is a 2 and the river is a KING. To make a long story shorter I won $600that evening. My biggest hand was AA I bet $25 pre flop was called, $45 after the flop called, $45 on the turn and $75 on the river. The community cards were perfect. No chances for straights nor flushes. No pairs and every card was J or lower. I was worried about 2 small pair or trips but the guy who was calling each time had pocket QQ's. I had a good night!!
Justin

Good for you Justin! WNBP is proud of you! -RB

Big John

We had 13 players this week, helped by the return of a few who have been absent for 3 weeks or more; Joey, Mater, Big John and Chad. Welcome back! We would have had even more but Kurt (plays almost every week) hosted his annual "NASA" party at his place, some of our players were there; Brian and Mark.

Results....

Big O made up for last week by winning the first HH with AAA22 and he had a nice profit at the end of the night! Little John Won the second HH with Quad Tens! We voted to have a third HH which was won by Wayne with Quad threes!

It was either Big O or Christopher who won the most, near the end of the night I asked everyone how they did and according to my notes...
Christopher +40
Big O +37
Little John +17
Mater +15
Brad +5
Paul even
Wayne even
Justin Down but won it back on "NO-PEEK" !
Big John Down a bit
Joey -8
Guy -20
Ronnie -down a bunch!
Chad -down a bit? (no notes)

We divided into 2 tables, It looked like Big money at the main table and small money at the little table. I saw one big hand at the big table, over $30 in the pot, couple of all-ins, it was won by Big-O with a Flush, on the river! I think we all had fun, again, it was good to have Mater, Joey and Big John Back in action!

Thanks to Big O for his donation of supplies and money to WNBP.
Thanks again to Little John for bringing the Pizza.
Thanks To Joey for bringing and EXTRA pizza.
Thanks for dealing ----- Justin and Wayne.
Thanks to ALL for everything!!!!!

Quad Quads

We had 11 players last night…..

Ronnie
Christopher
Big O
Rick
Justin
Brad
Little John
Kurt
Brian
Wayne
Tyler

Brad finally won “HIGH HAND”, until last night he had never won it, he made up for lost time because he won BOTH “High Hands”.
The first HH was unbelievable! Put it this way---- Big O lost with Quad fours, not only lost but came in third! It went something like this….

Christopher had Quads early on but no one called him so it was not “eligible”, later on Big O got Quad fours and it counted, write it down! I started to suggest we start over but since no one else seemed to care I kept quiet. Just a few minutes later Rick got Quad eights! Too bad Big O! With just 10 minutes to go it looked like Rick could start counting the cash right? Wrong! We were looking at three tens on the board, after the river, It was just Brad and Big O, we reminded Brad to be careful, if no one calls you your hand don’t count, so, if ya got the other ten, you might want to check it. Brad bets a dollar! So I guess he aint got the ten, Big O, using this logic and sitting with a full house calls him. Brad shows his ten! Quad Tens! He later admitted he had forgotten about “hand eligibility” and would not have bet otherwise! So we had Quads four times in one hour! It was the very first time Brad had won the HH, he went ahead and won the second HH with a BATTLESHIP BOAT. AAAKK Congratulations Brad! It took a while for Big O to get over the fact that his Quad fours were only good enough for third place, and he had Wayne right beside him to keep reminding him! AND then he lost that big hand to Brad’s quads…….WE were “being mean” to Big O, we will try to be nice next time Big O!

Justin Tarr was the big winner, and I mean BIG! He won $115.00! That’s got to be a record. I came out maybe $10.00 ahead, Christopher left early, up a bit. Other winners were probably Big-O, Kurt and Brad, I think Tyler and Little John were down a bit. I don’t know about Brian, Wayne or Rick. I need to take better notes. It was another night of fun and excitement! The night we had “Quad Quads”!

Report for the 9th

We had 12 players, we all played at the big table. It was good to have a 12 handed game all night, the pots were big but hard to win, hard for me anyway ;-) .

I want to say thanks, again, to Rudy! He gave me a bottle of 10 year old Scotch whisky, very nice, very smooth. I shared it with several of the players, it was excellent! I learned …. Ya aint supposed to knock it back, ya gotta sip it! What can I say I’m from Alabama, used to that sour mash from up the road in Lynchburg Tenn.

I may have had a bit too much of that stuff because I can’t remember much about the final hour or so. Guy and Justin won a bunch, Christopher was down early but came back strong. He lost some very close hands in the early going, beat by a kicker etc, at one point he stomped out banging on the walls in frustration as he went. He came back later and ended up ahead of the game.

I asked everyone to email me a line or two about how they did but only one player replied. “Little John” proudly announced he came out ahead! He walked away with an extra two bucks for his effort! Good for you Little John! And Thanks for offering to get pizza from pizza hut next week!

I don’t know how everyone else did, except, Kurt won the first HH (high-hand) with a boat, Guy won the second HH with a straight flush! We did a third HH but damn if I know who won it. Early on, Guy would have had four Kings, enough to win the first HH but over bet it like a rookie! :-)

It was another good night of fun for WNBP!

We play tonight

Last week was fun, I don’t remember who won or lost, I do know that I won about $30 and Justin lost a bit, very rare for Justin! I’m going to TRY to “take notes” tonight so I can file a report here tomorrow.

I remember one hand; I think the flop came with 3 diamonds that were also a good start to a straight, I bet it sort of big to see what would happen. Five of the seven players folded, Kurt was the only one who stayed, by the way, I had nothing. The next two cards were not diamonds or any help on the straight, since I was representing already having it “on the flop” I bet big the final time, I was sure Kurt didn’t have it (Flush or Straight) either. I think my bet was $2.00. Kurt said “something just ain’t right” and called my bet! I was right, Kurt did not have a flush or straight, he had a small pair, which beat my nothing! ------welcome to WNBP! Hands like that make it fun! Congrats to Kurt, I’ll call it even with Kurt, I caught him bluffing about two weeks ago!.
